Future, Present, & Past:

Speculative
~~ Giving itself latitude and leisure to take any premise or inquiry to its furthest associative conclusion.
Critical~~ Ready to apply, to itself and its object, the canons of reason, evidence, style, and ethics, up to their limits.
Traditional~~ At home and at large in the ecosystem of practice and memory that radically nourishes the whole person.

Eleven from '11

Top four most visited posts of 2011:

Bullshit again
Eucatastrophe vs. Yog-Sothery
Occupy Wall Street: the supply of demands
We have still never been modern

Seven of my own favorites, either because they got some good discussion, or because I got something off my chest, or just because:

Passivity
Theme
The stone (on Holy Saturday)
Homeopathic immortality
Beyond alienation
Weirdness
Flavor/mechanics

No overlap. The public is an ass.

  1. Maybe part of the problem lies in the fact that some posts have been found while googling for something else (this might be the case for Bullshit again and Occupy Wall Street). I notice that in my own blog the posts most read are the ones on forums and blogs, although they are by far not the most commented upon (and I assume that writing comments is a form of engaging with the thought of the author and hence means you find it interesting and thought-provoking).
BTW, my favourite post in 2011 is probably All Saint's Day in time and vice-versa.

  2. Hi Elisa,

I am glad you liked that one. There have been few remarks so for on the liturgical-angled posts, but it is a subject close to my heart.

I really don't blame 'the public' of course. I suspect you are right about Googling. Key words turn out to be a great way to get some possibly misleading hits. And then there are a few subjects that seem to always garner attention, often (imo) for the wrong reasons.
